Project GRACE is a nonprofit advance care planning education program that helps individuals and professionals create, communicate and honor future medical care wishes. Founded in 1999, Project GRACE's mission is to educate the community about effective advance care planning, empower individuals to communicate and implement their medical treatment decisions and promote the belief that all persons are entitled to dignified care in the final phase of life.
Karen Milne is the Community Outreach Coordinator for Project GRACE. Karen is also a certified facilitator/instructor in both the First Steps (Respecting Choices®) and Last Steps® (POLST) Advance Care Planning Curriculums trained by Gundersen Lutheran Health System in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Karen's passion about effective Advance Care Planning stems from personal family experiences. "There shouldn't be anything in the way of someone completing a Living Will and Designating a Healthcare Surrogate", says Karen. She provides professional and community presentations and personal facilitations throughout the Tampa Bay area and is one of the most sought after speakers on this subject.
Karen says her ten years at Suncoast Hospice have been the most rewarding experience of her life. She is responsible for Project GRACE's outreach education both community and professional, fundraising efforts, volunteer training and development and much more. She is on the Clearwater Chamber of Commerce Non-Profit Committee, certified in HR Management, a Health Coach and Area Governor for Toastmasters International (Where Leaders Are Made!) as well as Founder and Past President of Suncoast Caring Community Toastmasters Club.
